Images that tell a story. Intriguing characters. Settings that invite the viewer in. These elements are part of the visual storytelling that motivates Catherine Matthys to produce photographs that are engaging and unique.
“I love the interaction of people with their environment, the elements that make up the story. It’s all about the people, their gestures, the architecture, the light and colours, which all combine to create the scene”.
Purchasing her first serious camera in 2004 whilst living in The Netherlands, Catherine spent a year studying photography part time in Amsterdam . On her return to Australia in 2010 she studied and completed a Graduate Diploma in Creative Industries majoring in Photomedia at Edith Cowan University.
Her work has evolved into an evocative combination of Street and Travel. Visual narratives run through her imagery. Even in a busy environment her focus is on the individual and their presence in that moment.
